My uncle was issued #165,617 when he was in the Marines in WWI - needless to say, would like to find THAT one, too! No, don't know if it was SA or RIA! :(

Rick, we shall search together! Any other places you recommend posting?

As far as significance, this rifle s/n came up in the records of a Marine I'm connected to. I would love to find RIA or SA, but in the need it's unlikely I'll determine which make it was exactly.

"...what is the importance..." The RI was made in 1907. The SA in 1904. In any case, the chances of finding a particular 100 plus year old rifle are decidedly slim.

Gentlemen, I understand the importance of the make of the rifle. I do not have access to that information in my documents (as it simply does not exist) so there is no way for me to know. I would be pleased to find either make with this serial number and use what clues the rifle provides.
