Sold, pending arrival of funds
I have for sale a very uncommon German hammered "drilling gun", which, as you can see, has two shotgun barrels and one rifle barrel. It was probably (and I say "probably" - no papers available) brought back from my son's grandfather in World War II.
I had the gun evaluated by a specialist at German Gun Collectors and I think the best thing is to give his evaluation:
"...a "Roux" action hammer Drilling with barrels made of Krupp steel. It was made and proofed in Zella-Mehlis in 1921. The proof shows that it was tested with smokeless powder and a 135gr. jacketed bullet. The shotgun chambers, if unaltered, are for 2.5" (65mm) shells. This is something that you should verify as 2.75" shells will fit in nicely but can raise the pressure substantially. The rifle is likely a 6.5x57R, but could be a Sauer or something else. A chamber cast and a slugging of the barrel would verify that. As for value, you might study Guns International for similar hammer guns. I did not see any indication of who might have been the maker.
Gun making is still going on in ZM. The proof house is now a museum and they have a nice web site with some English pages..."
The same expert added in a later email, "...Hammer guns were cheaper to make but yours is finer than most. They remained popular in Germany until WWII..."
Further Comunication revelaed that the shotgun barels are a "short" 16 gauge. Both the shotgun barrels and the rifle barrels are pristine - no pitting.Several pictures below ...I can post, take or send additional ones, if needed.
