Hi Matt
I would totally agree with you but sometimes the question is incorrect. A reader showed a picture of a M1903 bolt and a 1903A3 bolt and asked why there was a difference in the left locking lugs. The difference was that the M1903 bolt had detents for the bolt stop and the M03A3 did not. His next question was "How does the bolt stop work. I went through the explanation and even showed him a write up from an American Rifleman hand book with pictures of the M1903 bolt stop in place. He again asked the same question. Then I recognized that what he was asking was: " What keeps the bolt from coming out when you pull it back.?" That is , of course, in the M1903 type action, the cutoff.
The bolt stop on a M1917 and the bolt stop on a M1903 are two different mechanisms. Evidently he was confusing the two.
