View Full Version : XM21 Hunter version.
Just finished up another all Bula Defense XM21. This time it was decided to set one up for hunting. The 20 rnd mag is just for the photo. Hunting requires 5 rounder. Leupold 2 -7 should be just about right. Bula custom 20.5 NM barrel cut at crowned.

How is the head space working out on all of your builds ?

I have been reaming to 1.632 to 1.633 so they are working out nicely. The chrome lined barrels have been running right at 1.633 with no reaming as designed.
5 Round magazine....figured you'd just single load one n done...Nice rifle:banana100:
Very nice. Maybe it will inspire me to finish my M25. I bought the parts long ago. Now that I'm retired and have the time I have found that I am lazy.

Tell me about it. When I was working, if I had a receiver come in, I would make time and nail it together pronto. Now than I am retired, I still have 3 more receivers in the shop and I just ordered 4 from James River with USGI heels , one from each mfg. At the rate I operate now, I may never finish them all. I find that shooting takes up more and more time along with the honey do's.
Suspect you'll find the scope is far too high. Even with a cheek rest.

Rgr that. That scope and rings are just a shop tool that gets clamped on all my rifles for function and test firing only. It was set up for a standard M-14 with a side scope mount and had to be that high to clear the rear sight. There will be a completely different setup for the finished product. This is one of mine set up properly.

Can't get it much closer than that.
Got out and ran a few ammo tests this morning at the request of a gentleman on another forum that was interested in the Atomic 168 gr match ammo that had been marketed by CMP. Atomic was a bit slower than any of the others at 12'.
Ran 10 rounds of each through my brandy new XM21 with Med weight 20.5 inch Bula Defense barrel cut and target crowned. All were 1moa or better at 100yds. Temp 40 deg.
Results: Atomic 2423
175 GMM 2526
XM118LR 2500
ZQI 2742

I've found the ZQI to be hot also. My 308 VZ 24 action on a Wilson barrel likes them. My buddy's 308 5R 700 P does not. Use to see it a lot at the local Walmart but not so much recently.
