I have a niece of a 45th WWII vet with his M1 and BAR Combination Score Book with his M1 SN asking for help. She is in contact with the CMP but wants to also research the database of rifles in private hands. Anyone have a link to the site if it is still live?

Disregard. Found it.

"...Disregard. Found it..." Highly unlikely to be remotely accurate in any case. I can say with absolute certainty nobody knows(including me) the S/N of the M1 Rifle in my private hands. Or the one before it. Records of who got what rifle were local unit records only and were not kept.
The Springfield Research Service might be able to help tell her where the thing was used(for a fee), but not where a particular rifle is now.
No W's.

I think she may just be interested in the rifle he trained with, which this one probably was? They do have a s/n of that one!

I think leemozoid was referring to the list started by MikeD@Jouster/CMP Forum , here is the website in case others would like to browse. http://usriflecal30m1.com/Default.aspx
