The holster in question definitely held a 1911 pistol. But, there was a pouch attached to it that held a spare magazine similar to a luger holster. Was that an issue holster? The photo was taken during the D-Day landing.

Back in the day it was not uncommon for an officer to go to a local leather or saddle shop and have a holster made to customer specification. My father carry a custom made holster that was made in Vietnam for his M1911A1. The holster had been handed down to each 1st shirt in his company as they each rotated back to the states. My father was the last 1st shirt before the unit left Vietnam and he kept the holster. I personally had my Gore-tex Jacket inside left pocket lined with velco for a custom holsters for a S&W Model 940 9mm Revolver and M9 Pistol.
