Anyone else seen this? Real or staged? Looks like he's fumbled while cocking the pistol and inadvertently moved the cylinder out of alignment with the barrel.

Back in the day when we carried the Model 66, had a somewhat similar problem. If you started to pull the trigger, then let off, then resumed pulling the trigger again, the cylinder would not index correctly; the hammer would fall, but the gun would not fire.

Even if the timing was off a little the registration has to be fairly close for the firing pin to correctly strike and detonate the primer. If that were the case I feel most of the bullet would travel down the bore but might damage the cylinder. Blowing a threaded barrel off of a frame while the shooter is hardly flinching? Nah, I don't believe it. My 2 cents.

To me the normal recoil of a S&W 500 would have been much greater than what was shown by the shooter, much less the barrel ripping out of the frame. I doubt a vise could have held it under these circumstances.

Without knowing anymore about the incident, I'm going to say it is staged. Shooter looks too calm for what just happened......not enough recoil and no visible injuries. I could be wrong with my observations but, my B.S. meter is in the red zone. Yes, I have experience with the S&W Model 500 revolver having owned one before. The only injuries I have ever seen in shooting the revolver were flame cutting the supporting hand when it is held in front of the cylinder and the obvious knock in the forehead by an unprepared shooter. I still shoot and enjoy the S&W .500 Magnum round albeit in a different platform.

The barrel looks like it's oddly angled upward. Couple that with the (lack of) reaction of the shooter and I think it's B.S..

Other than the slo-mo video ... all looks normal. Fellow doing the shooting looks to be strong enough to handle the gun. Barrel flying off ... will be interested to see what is said by S&W ... if and when it gets to them. JMHO. Sincerely. bruce.

Something odd about the audio. You hear a dull low roar in the background at the beginning. Then it gets totally silent. Then the roar. Kid was probably in a little state of shock. Hope he doesn't develop a flinch.

Someone just "happened" to video it too. That might seem odd except people routinely video so much that is merely mundane that the idea someone would video someone else firing a very powerful revolver is unremarkable. JMHO. Sincerely. bruce.

I agree. I fired an out of index 22 once and all that happened was the bullet was "shaved" of some lead which cut my hand.
