when you see a tank 500 meters from the stage (if you looked staight ahead that would be 12 oclock), we are at about 2 oclock on top of our M48a3 at Cu Chi base camp.
We had to shine our boots and bull$hit, so by the time we got there, all the remfs etc had the deluxe seating.
too bad...so sad! Maybe I should put in a claim with the VA about how bad that hurt my feelings!!:eusa_wall:

When Bob Hope visited us in 1967 Vietnam we had a rather large ampitheater for USO shows. Nearby was a hospital for wounded. Rightfully, they were seated at the front. You could tell the wounded from others because they all wore light blue hospital garments.

I saw that show when it came to Korea. It was a treat. I think it was the first live show I ever saw that wasn't a school production. The pictures I took that day with my Minolta SrT 101 are still in an album from my army days....I still have the camera and still use it sometimes too.

I saw the show at Chu Lai in '67. Feels like yesterday.

Hey Art, typical GI camera. Did you also have a Sansui 5000 Amp, Akai reel to reel tape deck, Dual 1219 turn table and Bose 901 speakers. Nothing like all at full bole playing "In a gadda da vida".

Yup, that or a Pentax Spotmatic or a Nikkormat. The tape decks and speakers didn't move me but at least a half dozen guys in my hootch had the reel to reel decks and the speakers......oh, and the locally produced custom tailored suits. Instead I ordered a "c" Colt .45 automatic through the PX.

My camera was a Ricoh 500 and a Yashika autoron 1/2 frame 8mm. Teak 4010s reel to reel , Kenwood amp, Pioneer turn table. Speakers were left by the guys before me, don't even remember what they were but huge.

Still have my Minolta SRT-101, and lenses. IIRC, the whole kit cost me $144.00. Even have 3 rolls of unopened Kodachrome film.

it is simply amazing how many USO shows Bob Hope put on for the troops from WWII on.

This is a photo of me at Chu Lai in '67 I see the case for my Ricoh 500 hanging on me so I guess one of my buddies is using my camera. Light meter must be there somewhere too.
