I have hook-rifled a barrel, using a file for the hook metal, and making my lathe with a log with spiral grooves cut in it.

Just like as described in Foxfire book 5, only with modern tools.

Book 5 is all about ironmaking, blacksmithing, flintlock rifles (home made), bear hunting, and other affairs of plain living.

The whole Firefox series is most interesting.

Yes the Foxfire books are interesting. Essential to be loaded on your e-reader in case the SHTF, LOL.
