It is very upsetting to hear of losing any species due to poaching. Especially at this point in time in an era of mass communication where the problem is widely known. Just to clarify, it's the northern white rhino which is all but lost to the future. The southern white rhino still has a chance, as do a few of the remaining sub species of the black rhinos.

Sad to think that some of our great grandchildren may grow up not knowing of the rhinos outside of stories. The way we grew up knowing of the dodo.
