You see a lot on trapdoor Springfields and some Krags but not often on 1903 stocks. USN 1903 stocks from
ships are also well marked but in the stock wood.43444434454344643447

This early Springfield 1903 stock and rifle came from the CMP, Rick B. found it years ago. There is no way
to prove the barreled action and stock were original - unless something turns-up in SRS

I have been told the following: Troop H, Trooper 18, 8th Cavalry (8th Cavalry was in Mexico 1916)

I assume the re-location of the bayonet band screw hole indicates a shortened stock when converted to .30-'06 from .30-'03. I'm told that is what the "S" on the tip means also.
