We have been asked to install approximately 200' of 8" HDPE piping which will carry potable water. We have been asked to perform a "shock chlorination test".

Has anyone ever done this on a similar system?

I throw shock into our hot tub but I doubt that is what is required.

Thanks

Ask them what they consider is a "shock chlorination test?"

Check with your local health or water department to see if there's a specific recognized standard for shock testing of pipes. Generally, you'll need to fill the new piping with water containing 200 mg/L of chlorine and let it stand undisturbed for 24 hours before flushing and having the water tested. Here is a link to a good article out of Texas A&M describing the process (section on Storage Tanks would be applicable; just ignore the "tank" part).

Thanks that is helpful, as John asked I have got back to the engineering company but I'm pretty sure that this is phrase they found in a book and do not understand it. Again the "cracker barrel" comes through.
