View Full Version : NM tracing question
Can you still get CMP to check a S/N to see if they sold it? Also what info will they provide (I realize they won't give out names)?
Thanks,
AJ

The main thing you get is authentication that it was sold as a NM.
CMP sold NM rifles are not the same as DCM sold rifles
CMP sold NM rifles are not the same as DCM sold rifles
So what is the difference?

I don't know how they would be different. The CMP is a reorganization of the DCM. It was basically turned into a self funded organization.
As far as letters go, I recently acquired a letter for a National Match M1 shipped in 1967. I got a letter printed on CMP letterhead that confirmed the rifle was shipped as a National Match Garand in 1967. And a photocopy of the government paperwork shipped with rifle; with shipping date, price, serial number, nsn number, etc. . The name and address of the person who ordered the rifle was blacked out.
The fee is charged if the information is available or not.
Hope this helps. Tom
CMP NM rifles were loaned to the Greeks, then returned, who knows what parts could have been changed while in their hands
DCM NM rifles were from storage then sold, you know you are getting a legit NM rifle. They are worth more than a CMP sold NM rifle any day

Of course you are discounting the club return national matches that were also sold by the CMP in the same time frame as the Greek return rifles. They are most assuredly authentic national match rifles.
Except those also could have had parts swapped
This is the reason DCM NM rifles bring much more $$$ than CMP NM rifles
