Are the type 38 and 99 receivers the same?

Hi, does anyone know if the type 38 and type 99 receivers the same. Will a type 38 bolt lock up in a 99 receiver.

Dunno, but your answer maybe here some where. Kind of doubt that they're the same though. 8mm difference in case length and the OAL is different between the 7.7 and 6.5. Very much a guess though.

The short answer is apparently no. Few parts are actually interchangeable between these rifles. Differences between the lengths of the locking lugs alone precludes "drop in" bolt replacement.

To bad guamsst has joined the list of folks who have gone on to other endeavors. His knowledge of Japanese WWII rifles was encyclopedic.
