Winter maintenance on M14 types today.

Started out this morning going over my scoped M14 type rifles.
I noticed only one of these has a side mount and it's a Basset low with a Hi Lux M40 green repro on it. Guess that mount and scope will be coming off so the standard M14 Type can go with it's brothers in another safe. That rifle is one of the Bula/James River/TRW heeled receivers.
Figured it was time to update a photo of my scoped M14 types.

Tomorrow I hope to start on the standard M14 types. There are a couple dozen of those so it may take a bit.

Working on getting maintenance done on some of my standard type M14s I ran into another Bula M21DMR in a fiberglass USGI stock. Must have set this one aside after a build and forgot it a couple of years ago. Ser# TFL002. After cleaning and lubing, mounted a spare Hi-Lux 3-9 repro scope using Leupold QRW low rings. Hopefully will get out and shoot a bit tomorrow.
Ordered a few more Tac-Pro strap on cheek risers this morning.
Dang, I love this hobby.

Decided that new USGI fiberglass stock needed a little touch.
Krylon implement paint in Ford Blue should do the trick.
My attempt at fighting of the Winter Blues.

A friend on another forum suggested Farmall Red.
Sounds like a great project and good use to put a bunch of my USGI fiberglass stocks to.
Ok, decided to do it thru Amazon and save a little hunting. Ordered Cat Yellow, John Deere Green, Massey Red and Kubota Orange. That will give me 5 colored fiberglass rifle stocks. I think I will leave Hawk's kits their original park flavor , at least for now. Maybe chrome them up later.
Could be fun mix and matching the different color handguards for some contrast.

BTW if you need any more paint. Tractor Supply (if there is one nearby) stocks those very same paints.

Yep, there is one about 10 miles away.
Got this one drying. With windows to the shop open and ventilation fan running. Man does that implement paint stink.

Beautiful firearms. I actually like the fiberglass stocks as they are light and as I have small hands the pistol grip fits well. We had brand new ones at Fort Sill in 1970, beautiful weapons. I'm carrying one in my little avatar picture.

Awesome Griff. I never even saw a fiberglass stock until years after I left the Corps. Now, these with the knurled pistol grip and forearm are the cat's meow for an accurate rifle if you take time and find a straight one that provides decent draw pressure. They seem to be much sturdier than the first version.

I Acragglassed mine, stuffed two GI socks under the stock while it set, it's very accurate. It was a commercial SA from the 80's that the owner had ordered in an E2 pistol grip squad auto rifle one...
