Looking at this 1903 for a possible purchase. I was hoping you guys could tell me a little about it. Looks like a re-arsenal with nice wood, patchy Parkerizing and a little pitting in the bore. Strong rifling though.

It is not a museum piece. So what! I've owned a few decent 03's ... one was a true museum piece. That rifle looks very good. If the bore is not perfect, might allow you to get the price down a bit. I have a SA 03 ... w/ a Sedley 44 barrel. Bore was "hazy." Cleaned it ... shot it ... it is not mirror bright. But, $500 to my door was a good price. It shoots like a house afire. Has a scant stock like shown on the rifle you are considering. If I were looking at that rifle ... unless the price was crazy, I'd be getting out my money. JMHO. Sincerely. bruce.

I have SA serial number 1479546 with a SA 9-35 dated barrel and without Hatcher hole too. Your stock has the SA GAW rebuild stamp
that would date from late WW2. How much are they asking for the rifle in your photos?

Is it possible that the barrel is original to the receiver on this rifle?
Well below market value.

Only a guess on my part - but I would say it is an original barrel to your receiver

I would ask the seller if he’s had it checked for throat and muzzle erosion and headspace issues. If not, then have a gunsmith check it out.
