View Full Version : I.D. And SRS check
Still learning about the 1903 rifles. I am considering this one, is it anything special?
S in the cut off, P on the grip bottom, D28179 on hand guard, no other marks on the wood I can find. 2-21 date on S A barrel

That's interesting. I don't think I've ever seen a barrel as late as 1921 with a A on it.

The hand guard marking is a National Match drawing number....Check the stock, just above the bottom sling swivel for a matching one. Also check your muzzle; If there is a "star" (which to me resembles a Ladybug) in the six o'clock position, it is a National Match (aka "star gauged")) barrel. From what I can see, the barrel is original to the receiver. Nice f-----g rifle, if you'll pardon my Marine vernacular....
I thought the numbered hand guard was found on pre WW2 rifles and not just NM rifles. As well as the numbered hand guard the C stock also
had a drawing number. I have found drawing numbers on the trigger (both NM and standard- different numbers too), follower, cut-off, rear sight
base and other parts too
It's not mine yet so I can't check a lot of the details.
I pick it up Thursday.
Thanks guys
