Rod stop on M70

I know that the fingers on the rod stop are visible when the cleaning rod is removed. Is it normal for the other end to show also? I have not seen this on any of my other rifles.
This being a type II M70 should it have a boxed L behind the trigger plate or just an L as this rifle has? My M68 has an L also with no box and my M69 cadet has the boxed L so did Springfield use both? Thanks

Normally the rear of the stop is not visible, but the wood is pretty thin at that spot, so, sometimes they break through. As to the the proof stamp, usually it's a boxed L. Without the trigger guard for reference, it's hard to tell exactly where you are showing. The mark is often shallow or worn away - not like some of the .45-70 (P)s that were really thumped on.

Thanks Dick, The rear of the trigger guard is barely showing at the bottom of the photo, I should have rotated the pic as it is sort of upside down.
