Saw an original Springfield Armory M1911 today. Complete with a Springfield manufactured magazine and period holster.

Looks like it has Colt grips on it.

I went back and looked at it again today. The S/N is 337349 that is Colt 1918. The buyer was not happy.
How uncommon or common is the magazine?
Can anyone decipher the holster markings?

not very common. for holster markings try here https://www.greatwarforum.org/forum/151-arms-and-other-weapons/
I normally see the SA mags with the loop sell for $300-350. They made some w/o the loop that are only correct for the SA pistols made in 1916.

Elimination of the loop was authorized on July 18, 1916. So this mag would be correct for a 1914,1915 or early 1916 M1911. Thanks for the info.

Although there is no joy on an SRS lookup, it does fall in the midst of some very good company!

Ken,
If I was sure it was a USMC pistol, I'd own it.

AJ, Most of the USMC dates occur after its number and were issued in July 1930. Colt letter wouldn't help either

Ken,
According to Clawson the S/N falls in the block 233601-573000 that were shipped from Colt in 1918 (total of 319,746 pieces) to the military. So without a hit on the SRS, it is anybody's guess as to where it went.

Can you look mine up too? Serial #104189. Clawson's 3rd edition (little book) just shows it as a group of 5,000 made in 1915.
102597-107596 Serial numbers used by Springfield Armory. The SRS does not list your serial number. It does show some around yours, but some are Army and some Navy. Sorry not to be of much assistance.

The revision to eliminate the lanyard loop was issued March 20, 1916, but the first Colt pistol shipped in 1916 was not until September 8, so the last pistol shipped in 1915, serial number 125566, became the last Colt pistol shipped with the lanyard loop magazine.
Colt serial number 337349 was shipped between June 15 and June 29, 1918. 2800 of those were shipped to the Navy, but only a Colt letter will indicate which ones.
