Participated in a Veteran's day shoot today. Because I was shooting prone, I drew position #2 which was a raised 3" off the ground 4-8 plywood area. Shot my 03A4,.308 scoped M14, 6.5 Creedmoor XM21 and my Savage Stealth in 6.5. Position#1 to my left was a wooden bench with a few gents shooting 300 Win mags. Two were suppressed and not bad to deal with. One fellow had one of those brakes that everyone dreads, every once in awhile they broke out their subguns. Position #3 was another Marine who was shooting a .308 M1 slung up sitting. Position #4 was another M1 with an older gent shooting off a bench. Now comes the fun. Position #5 was a grass area and they were set up with an M2, M60 and an M240 plus a multitude of sub guns. Next 10 positions were mostly rifles, then 5 spots for pistols and final area was for shotguns. 30 feet behind the firing line were 2 bagpipers and a drummer that played even during firing so it sounded like a Scottish battle was going on for the 4 hours I was there punctuated by 20 minute breaks for target retrievals every hour or so. Folks were allowed to set up their own target racks wherever they chose out to 250 but most chose 50 to 75 yards. Range had 10" steel plates at 250 and a gong at the 529yd line. My choice , as usual was my 50' rimfire targets at 100yds and the steel plates at 250. Alternating between my 4 rifles I managed to run through just over 500 rnds. All in all a great day. That 50cal M2 to my right 20' sure made things interesting as did spectators questions about my gear. A dozen large tanerite explosions kept the adrenaline pumping. The 6 range officers did a super job and I think everyone had a good time. Looking forward to another shoot there in the Spring.
