About twenty years ago I found some 1903 stocks that with appeared to be US Navy ship markings,
not certain if these stocks came from Rock Island or Crane salvage. Around early Sept 2005,
someone posted photos of a 1903 recovered from the USS Mississippi. I also had a stock with the
same type of MISS and date and was able to confirm that I had a USN stock. Also found a early
shovel cover from the USMC4721047211/MISS too.

Pete Davis here is the photo for you of the original USS MISS

My friend found this rifle at a GA gun show around 2005 and called me, I told
him to buy it for me. The owner said he bought from the CMP rifles that were
from the VFW or American Legion. When my friend called he said the stock had
a TENN stamp and looked like a complete early 1918 Springfield.

The serial number is SA 825055 and barrel is SA 3-18 with a nice bore. the stock
has the W.E.S. cartouche and rebuild stamps BA JS and the TENN. The receiver
has the Hatcher hole.

Later on I found another TENN marked stock with a D.A.L. cartouche in better
condition but decided to keep the original ? stock on the rifle.

This serial number is among many USN/USMC serial numbers but so far no "hit"

So, what would a US Navy M1903 or 03A3 with a SRS confirmed S/N and a properly stamped stock.be worth?

My friend Rick Borecky found this stock a few years ago and I was able to buy
it. Not a normal naval type of marking, more like something done in haste ?

What I did not know until I got this stock was the interesting cartouche, while
not really rare it is not that common to find either4721847219

My information has it that most of not all of these marks are not authentic.

This stock was painted white and is a single bolt Rock Island. When the paint was removed
the stock was found to be marked AT over 21. Both Ed Byrns and Tom in NJ identified this
marking as the USS Bagaluce an ocean going tug from WW!. Later Rick Borecky found a
AT over 16 that was identified as the USS Tillamook47222
