A delay in the identifing the Coronavirus in China could have been avoided by a number of weeks

“If China's officials had disclosed to the world, the presence of the epidemic earlier
the world health agencies, governments, and people could have had an earlier heads up..

Imagine the type of government that's trying to suppress information? Not unlike here...panic control.

Have we blamed the pangolins yet?

What difference do you think "an earlier heads up" would have made? Just curious.

Arguably an earlier ban on travel from China, but that would have created problems of its own, given that some people who work here (legally) traveled to China over the holiday break and they would have been stranded.

The idea would be to buy more time to get organized against the virus, particularly getting a testing program up and running. But in the US at least there was plenty of self-inflicted blundering on that task and we can't blame the Chinese for what follows from that.

So ultimately it's just another "blame foreigners" exercise, a reflex that some have down stone cold.

Some will say "oh it's Vox" but they're reporting what scientists are saying. Short answer....bats to intermediate host then people. Bats are common in that part of China, and the markets are unregulated.
