I am going to look at a Winchester M1 Garand that is for sale in the next few days. It is in the 141,000 range. I have misplaced my Scott Duff book on the WW2 Garands. Can some one please tell me the features I should be looking for to insure it is correct? My friend has owned the rifle for 35+ years and I was with him when he bought it. I don't remember much about it except it had the no trap butt plate. I have first choice on it. If I am able to get it, I will be sure to post pictures.

That datasheet will give you partial information as that particular rifle isn't original as it was updated and used on Iwo. Here's a more information,

1. Hammer spring housing and plunger should be in the white
2. Rear sight, short pinion and flushnut with checkard, flared arrow-WRA, knobs
3. Firing pin should be round (not uncommon to have been replaced with later pin)
4. Op rod catch, early
5. Gas cylinder, unmarked WRA narrow base with sight seal intact ( seal could be removed if sight needed to be adjusted)
6. No trap buttplate, with border-WRA
7. WRA/WB stock
8. Uncut rear handguard
9. Lower band , arched/milled WRA
10. Rear handguard clip, grooved (if I remember correctly)

Hope this helps.
