Some thread drift here, but reading up on the GT40 pit service, I come to read that in the state of Oregon, self service gas is not really a thing. What's up with that? Jobs program for gas station attendants? What are the laws re: elevator buttons?

Possibly what you suggest, possibly to keep people from overfilling their tanks, as an attempt to keep excess hydrocarbons out of the air.

During business trips to California I noticed that once the nozzle "popped", has flow couldn't be restarted. I hypothesized that this was due to the same reason.

I think NJ has, or had some of the same rules regarding having to have the gas pumped, vs pumping it yourself

Back in the mid 1970s, when other kids were listing after Cameros or Mustangs, I wanted an AC Cobra. 289 or 427, it didn't matter. Guy up the street has a Sunbeam Tiger.

The only other car I lusted after like that was a 1987 Buick Grand National.

drove thru Jersey Wed afternoon, stopped at the travel plaza or whatever they are called (we don't have them here) to get a bite to eat and some fuel,

dude met me at the pump,
I unlocked the door, he took my CC and ran it thru the pump, and set the nozzle and walked away to help someone else,

once full, I did not wait, I just put the nozzle back, capped it up and drove off,

probably broke the law, but no one seemed to care

Wonder how many extra nickels per gallon needed to cover that guy's wage. I suppose maybe it reduces drive offs but if the pumps are CC only anyone can swipe a card.

diesel was $2.47 gal, not out of line,

I was expecting to pay more ,


eta, he had to swipe an attendant card first, then my CC,

when I put the nozzle back, it had already printed my receipt,


and like I said, he had walked off , so if the pump had not shut off, diesel everywhere,,,
