I purchased this one from eBay. I feel comfortable that is is indeed a ground down musket lock and stamped 1884. It also looks like it's a condemned part from the C on the back. Just an interesting piece. Interesting hammer as well.

Looks like a hammer which had begun to be modified to cartridge but never finished. The plate is plainer than many, having just the date. Interesting as a conversation piece.

I once knew a guy whose family members use to go dumpster diving at Bannermans island, This is where this came from. Notice the slight bevel still visible and also no hole on outer side where the mainspring lug would insert into on opposite side, same as the early civil war lock plates no hole drilled through.

That's interesting. Looks very similar to mine. Thank you for posting the pictures. I'm reading the book, Bannerman's Castle at the moment. Lots of history in that place! Dumpster diving there would be very fun indeed!
