1877 carbine

Seen this 1877 carbine on proxibid. Shouldn't this carbine have a dated lock plate for serial #6672?
Also there is a double p proof on the barrel, is this normal as I have never seen this before?

Look for the BIG things first. Why does it have the later swept back trigger that did not come out until 1883? May well be a parts queen.

VERY few carbines in that range. Should not have barrel proofs. Many other issues, yes including the lock plate. Parts gun.

Didn't think about the barrel not having proof marks, should have known better lol!!
I figured the trigger and lock may have been replaced at some time.
Any ideas on the double P? Have never seen that before.

That stock looks to be cut for a "wide receiver'. No stock inspection cartouche. Parts.

Well, there WERE short-wrist stocks cut for the narrow receiver, about 25,000 overall, made from +/-71,000-96,300, BUTthey are few and far between, as not very many carbines were made during that period. That gun has also been waaay over cleaned, almost certainly to hide mismatching finishes.SA would not have put a narrow receiver into a wide stock, even on overhaul. Anyone who goes for that piece is fooling themselves.
