What are the odds of a headspace problem? Bolt is about 30 digits "off" from receiver. How much does this "hurt" value, roughly speaking--25%? 50%?

maybe 25% on the value,

doubtful there will be a headspace issue ,

Isn't a big, expensive, deal to check headspace on a .22. If your smithy doesn't have 'em, you can rent headspace gauges for $7 per day. Buying 'em is kind of pricey at around $45 each.

In any case, .22 LR headspace issues are unlikely to give you the kind of headache, say a .303 Brit will.
Value will depend a lot on the condition of the rest of the thing.

If you have to buy the rifle first, it is.

Checking the headspace is not.

Can a reasonably accurate headspace determination be made by using a known value piece of shim stock attached to a .22 case similar to doing that type of measurement on a centerfire piece? Only a field expedient substitute for an actual gauge. Jim
