250 GN 30 caliber bullets.....Loading data???

I have 100 250 grain 30 caliber BTHP bullets. I think they were for an experimental target load developed in the late 50's. Anyone have any loading data?48848

I checked my Dunlap's manual, and for all the calibers so far mentioned he used a max size of 200 gr,

Yep.....i couldn't find anything in my reloading manuals either. I bought from the same man a box of the WESTERN 200 grain 308 Match "Hand loaded" cartridges with mercuric corrosive primers. These were loaded, IIRC, for the bolt action target rifles and I think they had to be single loaded488524885348854

I have a single example of a 30 cal (.308 dia) SP bullet the at 330 grs ! Someone told
me the firearm factories used these bullets in test loadings to check recoil ? Also read
that years ago there was a custom 30 cal 250 gr bullet available for hunting in Africa.

Also have a photo of a NM 7,62mm cartridge with 200gr bullet, it is on the right side of
the white tip "low recoil" 7,62mm developed for Viet Nam troops.

The 200 gr NM 7,62mm would not fit in the M14 mag and had to be single loaded.488554885648857

I'll try to remember to look in a couple older lyman/ideal manuals I have,
they may show a cast boolit load, that can be used to extrapolate a starting load,

would be interesting to see how they do...

The Lyman Reloading Handbook 43rd Edition has 30 cal 250gr jacket reloading data for 300 H&H

powders used are 4320, 4350, 4831 and H570

velocity was between 2100 to 2200 fps

Thanks for the "heads up". I think some of the early M70 target rifles were chambered in 300 H&H.

Model 70 Bull Gun chambered for 300 H&H

The 300 H&H cartridge also won the Wimbledon Cup match in 1935, The winner was
Ben Comfort who used a Model 1917 action that was built by Griffin & Howe into a
match rifle. the barrel was a special Winchester and the stock work was done by G&H.

Western developed a 300 H&H loading with a 180gr bullet that was used to win the cup

A Lyman 5x scope was used at this 1000 yard match

Barnes made 'originals' in .308 250grains. Their manuals 2 and 3 have data. I also have data for the 300 gr 308 cal tungsten core bullets made by Elk Mountain in Pasco WA in the 70s, which Speer made for a while. Think the Feds shut that down.

Hornady currently makes a 250 grain A-Tip. Isn't for the .30-06 though.
