Later as in M-1888 rifles? I have found over the years of collecting that the chambers are very uniform as the reamers were very well made to spec. Now the rifling depth over the years seemed to grow from 1878-1885 .450 bore- .460 grove. M-1888 specks. still have .450 bores but groove can go as high as .467. So biggest diameter bullet you can use is .463 without regard to year of rifle or carbine. Hope this helps a little.
