99% of the time I crack an egg none of the shell falls in the pan. It's a gift from above.

Reently, our eggs have had really tough shells requiering a hard blow to the pan's edge and splattering all over the cook top.

My suburbanite daughter bought 5 chicks plus a coop 2 years ago. They all produce one brown egg a day or almost 3 dozen a week. I want to say that these eggs cook up differently from super market eggs. They seem to stand higher on the plate when fried and are more dense when scrambled but removing the shell when hard boiled is nearly impossible.

Supposedly harder shells make eggs safer by keeping bacterial from entering egg. I don't know, but oyster shells in the feed will make the shells harder.

eggs are porous, not sure if hard or soft makes a difference in what can or cannot get thru, ,

re the 'farm raised' or free range eggs vs store bought,

we go our of our way to grab any we can, they taste better in omelets, fried, scrambled etc, than any store bought egg,

best I have had are the ones from the chickens that lay a light greenish colored eggshell, bright orange yolk, and delicious

My neighbors have chickens and I get some eggs once in a while. They are light green. The shells are tougher and the eggs seem just a little better.

When my son was a youngster he raised Araucana chickens that laid light blue or light green eggs. Maybe the power of suggestion has something to do with taste, but couldn't tell any difference in the pastel eggs.
