Dang I don't know how I missed this one. He died in Arlington Texas in May at 78, just a few weeks after being diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer. Over the last 30+ years of his life he did mostly Contemporary Christian/Gospel music and some country along with his standards. This one is a niche Contemporary Christian song first popularized by him in 1982 and covered by a bunch of other folks. Not for everyone but I like it. This video recording was made in the summer of 2020.

It's the COVID version. He was dying when he made it though he might not have known it yet when he sang this.

In his late 70s the old boy could still belt 'em out.

Lenny Bruce had a routine with a similar theme as part of his stand up act.

Oh, and a P.S. that young feller in the gray shirt and glasses can play himself some guitar :icon_e_surprised: :icon_salut: .

I always liked the song "Eyes of a New York Woman".

Wonder if he had someone specific in mind when he wrote it.

I like that one a lot too. For a song that was a pretty big deal when released it seems an almost forgotten part of Thomas musical legacy. I think the only hit recording of Thomas that's less known today is "Billy and Sue" which was released in the mid '60s when he was with "The Triumphs."

"The Eyes of a New York Woman" was released in 1968 and Thomas married a songwriter named Gloria Richardson that same year so maybe he did. He stayed married to her until he died, very unusual in that business.

Here is a site for keeping up with dead people. It's not necessarily a good site but "a" site. You can click on the year or the alphabet.

Thanks for that link. But a little depressing. I just saw Cloris Leachman(Clorox Bleachman) on an episode of Lancer just this morning. A lot of them I figured were dead but I hadn't gotten the official word. I'm happy that a lot of those folks got into their eighties. That's something to shoot for. It's been twenty yrs. since I've thought about B.J. Thomas. Dang. I'm not a musician or associated with musicians.
