Our son, who is single and has some money has many hobbies. One is military firearms and when he is deployed he will usually buy another one. Well he's in the "sandbox" so he ordered a new gun. It's an FN Herstal AR. The rifle is the civilian version of the current Air Force M4. The FFL called to tell me it was in so I went down to his shop to check it out. Let me tell you it is beautiful. Other than the barrel being 16" and the safety not rocking back into the "go fast" position which is marked but not accessable it is an exact match to the AF version. It is obviously much, much higher quality than his Windham Arms AR, of course you could buy two Windhams and an S&W snubby for what he invested in this rifle. Is the effective difference between the two $1,000.00 + ? probably not, but hey, when you care enough to buy the best. He owns the current AF optic, an Aimpoint Patrol which I'm sure will top this rifle.
