I have used up all my M1 Garand ammo and none could be found so I figure it is time to start reloading and have purchased a RCBS Rebel single stage press. Thankfully I have saved my brass over the years and have tons of it. I also have a couple Jap Type 99's and plan to shoot them which leads to my first question. I ordered brand new PPU 7.7x58 brass, what would you do to prep new, never fired brass?
buy a case gauge, and drop the brass in the gauge to see if it is sized properly,
should be,
or just run it thru the sizing die before priming to make sure
then load, shoot repeat

If your M1 Rifle ammo was commercial or GI Match you will be OK, but if GI issue you will need to ream the primer pockets, as the primers were staked.
Been loading for 60 years. Just take your time and read the loading manuals. Most will tell you all you need to get set up and enjoy the hobby.

nf1e: Does corrosive primed brass need to be washed to remove the residue from inside the case?
Good question. I wet tumble all brass with ss pins so all residue is removed.
