Springfield Sporter originally fitted with bases for the Winchester A-5 scope. The barrels were finished in rust blue (browned) and the small parts like trigger guard in niter blue.
The barrel of the Springfield Sporter was slightly heavier than the standard 1903 rifle barrel, and a much better rear sight. Some used them in the National Matches.
The gun manufacturers complained about Springfield Armory getting into the sporting rifle business.
Wish someoe had left their name off, but it is there.
