In days past, Russian chutes were light blue in color. They probably figured the harder to see against the sky would be harder to see and less of a target for the enemy to shoot at.

If you look closely you'll see an explosion right in front of him as he fires that rocket. Probably a proximity fused SAM of some sort. He was lucky to get out.

Spitfires that flew turnaround missions from England to Berlin were painted blue, I doubt the blue color improved on gas millage.
