View Full Version : Chasing the iron sights.
Getting a bit bored with the scoped rifles so I am goofing with one of my TRW builds and having a ball chasing the front sight. Letting the rifle cool now before going back out. USGI standard contour barrrel warms up pretty darn quick. As you can see by the targets I over corrected on the windage. Instead of 2 clicks I should have only done one. Whatta Hobby!

Beautiful rifle! Excellent shooting. Sincerely. bruce.
Getting better. PFC Thomas reminded me to keep both eyes open. Then I remembered I did better without my glasses. Shot this 100-7x with iron sights today.
A little more practice and I just might be able to make it 10x. As you can see, my horizontal ain't bad but vertical needs improvement. Hard for these 74 year old eyes to tell exactly where 6 oclock is on the target. I did put up a larger white backer today which helped. Whatta Hobby!

Any possibility that the vertical stringing might be due to the ammo?

Not at all. Shoots one hole with an optic mounted. It's all in my not being able to see the 6 any more.

nf1e, I take it that when you write "not being able to see the 6 " you are referring to a 6 o'clock hold. Have you tried a center bull hold?

Have not. Front sight just gets lost in the darkness. At least 7 out of 10 on my target were Xs so I am not feeling too bad.

Put some neon nail polish on the front sight. Your choice of color.
Will have to check out my make up table and give it a try. Thanks
old hi power trick is to use a pencil
make a line or 2 on the front sight, after it is blackened,
helps center it on the bull,
however, did not work for me, I use (and still attempt to) the old 'line of white' or just under 6 oclock hold
That's what I have tried to do. Finding that little line of white at 6 used to be no problem. These days everything with irons seems to be a problem but I intend to stick with it. Thanks to all for any advice.
