You may notice the complete lack of people in his paintings.
As an artist he'd have made a terrible house painter!

I don't think he liked people, at least those living in other countries.

Painting people at a distance shouldn't be that difficult but portrait painting is much harder than landscape painting if you've ever tried it.

IIRC that individual's application to the Vienna Art Institute was rejected, they said he was better suited to architecture. But the Architectural Institute rejected him because he was a high school dropout.
