View Full Version : Best Guess ON S/N
What is anyones best guess as to when Inland 6342306 was manufactured? I am guessing late 44 or early 45. It was rebuilt and now wears an Underwood barrel dated 8-44.
internet says Aug thru Nov of 1944
there is a guy that used to frequent the gunshows in this area that can supposedly tell you what day it was made and what shift,,,,,

I have five books on M1 Carbines and none give as precise dates as this http://uscarbinecal30m1.com/ProductionGraph.aspx

The Carbine Collectors Club website lists several data sheets close to (before & after) your serial number with barrel dates of 11-44 and probably completed for shipment in Dec. '44.

Most of the information comes from production records. No information has been found on the Remington Rand Model 1911A1 pistols, but the production records were found. From this, an approximate manufacture date was extrapolated.
The shipping records were found for the Ithaca Model 1911A1 pistols, but this only give when they left Ithaca and where they were shipped to.
Colt kept detailed records on assembly and shipping information.

There are day by day records of highest serial number applied to receivers in the case of Winchester Garands and Winchester M1 carbines, but I don't this kind of detailed information has been recorded or discovered for any of the other M1 carbine manufacturers. I have two Inland carbines that closely bracket the OPs 6342306 and both have a 11-44 Inland barrel, so manufacture date would likely be November or December of 1944.
Thank you for the information Gentlemen!
