This "Plane Table Alidade" by Keuffel & Esser should be here tomorrow.
It was made in about 1944, and appears essentially unused, although missing a few minor parts from the case and instrument. I believe this may be USMC from a few clues - the most substantial is the logo on the box. My limited research suggests it is an early logo from the "7th Engineer Battalion" who trained essentially all of the USMC engineers at Camp Pendleton as well doing a lot of projects in California related to the base from formation in 1950 to about 1965 when they went to Vietnam.
My limited and not exhaustive research has not found a definitive example of this shield logo for this unit, although there is a stylized shield used while in Vietnam
Can you help by providing any insight into if this is or is-not a USMC unit?
