It was November 1963. The ship my Wife and I had come on
docked at Montreal on it's way to Oz. Our funds did not allow
too much choice in the way of vehicles which led us (me) to
buy a 57 Plymouth Fury which had seen happier days, made
apparent when the case I tossed into the trunk broke through
the rusted floor.. We set off to visit Wife's Uncle in Toronto
before pointing her nose toward the West (Go West young Man).
Got out of Chicago -Fast. Missouri, Kansas (I think) Oklahoma
and Texas. I think it was in Texas that that the car started acting
up, meaning she wouldn't start come mornings. The people were
really nice and friendly back then and getting a tow or push was
no problem (had to do around 40 before it would start (auto).
A Motel room was $7. Breakfast at Dennys a dollar something.
Waitresses across the country wore a black skirt with white blouse
and they were really nice. Had to get a tow or push every morning
through Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, and Nevada. Landed up in
Burbank California on the day of the Presidents assassination. A sad
ending to an eventful journey.
I still have one of the license plates.
