A Ford pick up in the movie Mr Majestic took a beating
you'd think would destroy it - but the Ford people said
it survived just fine, was a standard model with no
modifications made for the movie.
Best advertising for a truck I've ever seen.

The best advertisements I've seen for Fords are police cars.

Other than racing no other duty is more demanding upon a car than police service. Many of these cars, when retired go into taxi service, probably the 2nd most demanding service.

Chevy makes the Tahoe that are taking the place of the no longer made Crown Vics but I read about a lot of engine replacements. Same for the little Dodge's.

Taurus's were used for a while with their AWD 365hp 3.5 v6 engines but are now discontinued. Now what I'm seeing most of are the Explorer's.

I worked for a company that would buy Crown Vics from rental car companies usually with 12-15k miles on them at much reduced price. The cars were strictly maintained by local Ford dealers. We would drive them to extreme mileage (300k+) with zero engine or transmission problems. Normal plugs, shocks, brakes, and a alternator was about the only repairs we had. When I retired, I bought a Police Crown Vic that had 110k miles on it. It had a heavy duty tranny, and heavy duty exhausts. I bought it at auction and put 200k on top of the 110!

The Crown Vics were the ones that exploded if hit in the real end. Not a nice story.

They would show him occasionally on tv because, by god. Picture Freddy Kruger and your pretty close.
Jason seems a little upset that he was reinstated. That's because it's all new to him. I've seen a few disabled employees reinstated. It's a gesture; they never stay long.

First I've heard of this. If I read the article correctly he was hit at 100mph. All cars have their limits.

Not defending Ford but most police I spoke to did not like giving up their Crown Vics for what they are having to drive now. Many departments that use to retire them from police duty at around 100k kept them till near double that when the news broke that they would be discontinued.

The old Ford Pinto had part of the gas tank exposed and could light off if hit in the rear. Chevrolet pickups made in the 70's had the gas tanks mounted on the outside of the frame instead of protected inside of the frame. Some of these would light off too if hit just right.
