Unfortunately the 50's are gone and getting more distant, not closer.
I don't know about the rest of you guys but my kids are grown, I have no grandkids. Whenever me or the wife need something we just buy it. We don't get out into the Christmas rush and traffic any more. Inventions of new toys/games and such that come out at Christmas don't happen any more. The giant Sears, Montgomery Ward, JCP and other catalogs are long gone.
My happy Christmas memories are just that, memories from when I was young and my children were young.
Kids today see a whole different world than we did.
When I was a kid Christmas evening was when gifts were
given out. After dinner the whole family plus our two Aunts would
gather around the fireplace while my Mother would give out the
presents, one at a time. The recipient would unwrap while everyone
watched - then the next gift and so on. It took quite a while for them
all to be given out. My Father always worked until the evening on
Christmas days which is why the gift giving was held until Dad had
has his dinner. I'm sure we all hoped he'd hurry up.
Getting closer? Yeap! Looking forward to it. This will be the first year since 1979 that my wife and I will be able to spend with our family, especially our children and now our grandchildren. One way or another one of us was always working, etc. Very much want to just get to see all of them. The food is also great!!! Sincerely. bruce.
