Type 30 "university" rifle?

A fellow posted these pics on another site. As well as I know (and I don't know a whole lot about Japanese rifles) it's a Type 30. The stock cartouche reminds me of a university trainer I saw on a defunct site a long time ago. Any input if that might be true? I think the OP is in New Zealand.

If a Type 30, it will have a “Hook” safety.

Yes, but it's not visible so I was going by kanji near the chrysanthemum for the Type. SW

It's a Type 30 as indicted by the Kanji on the receiver. Some were also converted to trainers.
