Actually this plant is around the corner about 1/2 mile from my yard but I see it most every day.
This is a Century Plant. Nicknamed as such because they are rumored to only bloom every 100 years. They do bloom sooner but grow very slow and most of the time the bloom starves enough nutrients from the plant that it dies afterward.
If you were to pick this you would need quite a vase.
