Just curious.

How many of you are a member on Facebook?

I'm not because I don't trust the site-----nothing is free. My wife is and if she tries to post something pro-Trump, pro-right, or even pass something along that she received of that nature it gets blocked.

I can see it being a benefit for those who own a small company but just to chat, It's not for me.

Another reason I refuse is because of how it is "pushed" upon us. Many internet articles and sites require a FB log in. I simply read something else. It's not as bad as it use to be though in that regard.

I'm on it. But for just one reason. I traveled a lot earlier in my life & made friends all over the globe. I use it to keep in touch with them, nothing more.
I refuse to use any of the F/B "services" because as you say its heavily (& stupidly) censored buy automated AI bots, which are marginal in comprehension, or politically-motivated keyboard warriors with an attitude.
There's one thing you have to be aware of on FaceBook.
Your relationship with it is the same as a cow's relationship to a farmer. Members are no more than Stock in Trade & are milked for information & sold to people who sell "targeted advertising."

been on it about 2 years, personal, and business account, and also an admin of Rivanna Rifle and Pistol clubs High Power page,

it is a time suck, and zuckybird and his algorithms have worked to threaten to shut us down a few times,

they did kill my Brother's page once and 2 pages we created for the retail store,

Have been on Facebook since 2018. Found it to be an effective means by which to keep in touch with church members and family. This became especially the case with the coming of Covid. Retired in 2023. Have maintained membership on Facebook as it has afforded me a easy means by which to stay in contact with a large number of folks. Have not found anything that offers equal utility. JMHO. Sincerely. bruce.

I'm on there. Found it to be a great way to reconnect with high school and Army friends. I also "friended" a formerly very active member of this page.

I am. Wifey has family all over the world and it is really handy for her family matters and communications.
I read it for jokes and military silliness. Anyone getting seriously politickal to me is whacked or whatever.

I've been on it for over 15 years. Some Jouster regulars, including Pete Davis and Madsenshooter are on it as well, under different names. I stay in touch with people I knew in HS, the Coast Guard, in college, working in Thailand, working for various Indian Nations, and in the bicycle biz, in various bands I've been in, plus extended family. I post a lot, under my own name. I post public and don't put up anything I wouldn't want everyone to know. Anything you put up there never goes away.

Most of what you see on it is memes, cat and dog pictures, re-posts, etc. I put up my own stuff. Sometime I get put in FB jail. It's all ones and zeroes.

Don't believe a word they tell you.
Remember the "no more Fact Checkers" Who were infamous for ludicrous sanctions for everything & anything?
Well I got 2 sanction just this week.

My wife has the same setting of "friends only" but everything is watched under a microscope by them (FB). As mentioned before, anything she tries to forward that is pro-Trump or pro-GOP gets blocked even if it is something she received on FB in the first place.

Once they find something they don't like you get a target painted on your back and you're watched more closely.

Nothing is free. They watch, gather and store all and any info you broadcast. While me nor my wife have anything to hide it simply isn't any of their or anyone else's business. Public records is too informative as it is already. Where did all the info come from? Who you married, where you live, who your neighbors are/who lives on your street, what your net worth is, how much your home is worth, where you work or did work at, your religion and political preference is simply not my business nor anyone else's including the government yet it is there for the whole world to see w/o any permission. This is beyond courthouse records and not the purpose of a courthouse in the first place.

On one of the public record sites I am listed as having been a male nurse at a children's hospital in Mobile, AL. Funny, never a nurse, never been to that hospital, no training to be a nurse, about the last thing in life I would have considered. Those who know me would know it's BS if they looked it up. I don't want to correct it but if I did I would change my previous occupation to "rocket surgeon". (a combo term derived from rocket scientist/brain surgeon).

On the plus side though, my wife overall likes FB for the same reasons stated by others here. She stays in touch with old friends and classmates, gets the latest on everyone's old age ailments and deaths, etc...
