Hi, I'm a newbie that just recently inherited my father's Type I Remington Rand. If I'm correct, the 950418 sn puts it at the late period of type I production. I am questioning the ringed grips, the Colt mag, and the High Standard barrel that it has. Was it just the earlier models that had the Colt barrel and ringless grips? Regardless of its correctness, I am very proud to be the new owner of this beautiful piece of history.
I believe your receiver is too late for a Type I Remington Rand although the slide is a Type I. The stocks and barrel would be correct on your pistol, but the magazine is a Colt commercial transferred to the military contract, and would not have been original to your pistol.
Would the No with a line under the o not be on type 1 receivers? I basically got that info off coolgunsite. Also the serial numbers on type I's go to 1041404 according to the coolgunsite Remington Rand Story page. Thanks for the reply.
If coolgunsite has information that the Type I Remington Rands go to serial number 1041404 that is incorrect. The Type I serial number range goes to the 930/935000 serial number range. The No underline continued into Type II production.Quote:

Found an excerpt from Clawson's on www.model1911a1.com that actually puts both slides on this gun: "..produced 1943 has the "No." serial number prefix and has a Du-lite finish. Also has the second style slide logo "REMINGTON RAND, INC. SYRACUSE, N.Y., U.S.A." which is 1 3/8 inches long and can be found from about serial number 935000 to about 1015000. Therefore one can find the first or second style slide logo in the serial number range 93500-955000."

The site you are using for your information is several years old, and Clawson's Collector's Guide that was printed in 1993 has the following information on the Remington Rand.
SLIDE MARKING, left side:
First type, serial numbers 916405 to about 955000:
REMINGTON RAND, INC.
SYRACUSE, NEW YORK
From his 3rd Edition of the Collectors Guide, printed 2003:
SLIDE MARKING, left side:
First type --- serial numbered from 916405 to roughly 935000:
REMINGTON RAND, INC.
SYRACUSE, NEW YORK

IIRC, the highest serial number pistol I recall with the type 1 slide that I thought was all original is serial number 931958. I had that one for several years. I don't recall ever seeing one with a higher number. I've seen several type 2 slide pistols in the 932-933xxx range.
