Time for another barrel change on one of my Savage 110s. This time I ordered an X-Caliber .308 24" bull in SS. Barrel came in and looks pretty darn nice. Hoping to pop it on the next rainy day that comes along. Whatta Hobby!

Screwed the barrel on my .308 Savage. 20 moa rail had to come off to use action wrench so the thing is waiting until tomorrow for the loctite to set and then off to the range. Whatta hobby!
Mounted the scope and added a vertical pistol grip. Looks like tomorrow is going to be a good day. Whatta Hobby!

Getting set up for a nice gentle breakin of my new X-Caliber barrel. Whatta Hobby!

Started barrel break in today. 50 rnds fired with the old 1 clean 2 clean and so on up to a couple of 10 and clean. This is representative of one of those 10 shot groups during break in. I think it may work out. Max spread of .75 with an average under .5. Ammo was handloads in surplus berdan cases. 150 gn fb, 43.5 gn Varget with an sd of 10.5 traveling at an average of 2700. Whatta Hobby!

Still breaking in the X-Caliber .308 barrel. This was this morning under perfect conditions with a cold clean bore. 10 rnds at 100 yds. Have been working at getting the sd down under 10 this was right at 7.9 so things are looking correct for Lapua brass, BR-4 sr primers and 43.5 gn Varget for 2700 fps. Whatta Hobby!

Going through the old bullet stash I found 5 sleeves of Sierra 110 gn FB varminter bullets. Haven's used any of these in at least 30 years so I decided to load up 13 to start with. MEN berdan brass with Tula primers, 44.5 gn of Benchmark powder pushing the bullets to an average speed of 3057. I was impressed with the first 3 rnds clean cold bore on the center target and not so with the 10 on the upper left after scope adjustment. The brass had reached the end of its useful life and the primer pockets are loose after 10 loadings and is now in the trash. Will be loading up a few hundred of these in fresh berdan brass for the halibut. Whatta Hobby!
