Doesn't sound U.S. Military. Not sure how you would use it on a 1911. There wasn't an approved lanyard for the 1911 until 1916, which are dated 1917, and a WWII lanyard for the 1911A1.
The magazine for the 1911 pistol had a lanyard loop, but this was discontinued in 1916.
A WWI Lanyard dated Feb. 20, 1917, and a WW2 Lanyard dated 1943.
