Finally sourced a good condition one with the matching "mangrovite" scabbard still in the original brown finish & matching khaki frog..
It took a while, but was worth the wait.

Very, very nice. Some things are worth the wait. This is one of them. Congrats on your find.
Peace is that brief glorious moment in history when everybody stands around reloading.
Author unkown.
Thanks.
It seemed a worthy companion for the SMLE from Lithgow (NOT a JJ&CO build) in similar or better condition.
What’s the date on it? Outwardly I’m guessing WW2 era by overall appearance.
FYI the frog stud didn’t need to be forced through the “ button hole “.
The 1907 is quite content with being secured by the slit between the upper and lower straps as originally intended.
The button hole was added so the same frog would work with the No4 and No5 metal scabbards.
Just so you’re aware.

Thanks.
"8 42?" the 42 is "smeared" but the "4" is clear.
The frog came that way & I'm concerned I'll do more harm extracting & moving it than leaving it.
Yeah. Won’t hurt anyone by leaving it alone. They’re tough to get off.

Oh, its got the "SLAZ 42" scales, so it went through the big refurbish program post war in Aus.
