This 1901 Krag bayonet has two curious mods. The lower cross guard was neatly shortened, and on the reverse the 'U.S.' has been ground away. Any one have any thoughts on why? I've seen theater made fighting knives made from bayonets, but it's usually the upper cross guard removed and blade shortened. Why bother removing the 'U.S.'? Thanks for any comments. Cheers, Don
